W. B. Saffell is a 107-proof Kentucky straight bourbon from Wild Turkey’s Whiskey Barons Collection — a small line that revives historic Kentucky distilling names. This release honours William Butler Saffell, who built his own distillery in Lawrenceburg back in 1889, and the modern bourbon was put together with the hand of Master Distiller Eddie Russell.

What sets it apart is the blend: barrels aged 6, 8, 10 and 12 years married together and bottled non-chill-filtered at a hearty 107 proof. The result drinks richer and older than those numbers suggest. The nose is classic Wild Turkey — savoury oak and barrel char, baking spice, caramel apple and a curl of flamed orange peel. The palate turns to buttery caramel and dark maple syrup over a soft vanilla edge, before a long, warm finish that carries the proof without ever scorching.

This is a sipping bourbon first: pour it neat or over a single cube, and a few drops of water will coax out the sweeter notes.
