Product Description
The 2015 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe “La Crau” is a highly-rated Châteauneuf-du-Pape from an excellent vintage in the Southern Rhône. Known for its complex flavor profile and elegant structure, the wine is now entering a prime drinking window, with strong aging potential for at least another decade.
Tasting notes and characteristics
- Aromas: The nose offers a complex blend of red and dark berries, musky flowers, licorice, and garrigue (wild herbs like thyme and lavender). Notes of black olive, warm stone, and tobacco are also present.
- Palate: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated but with a creamy, surprisingly weightless texture. Flavors of cherry, cassis, and Mexican chocolate lead to a powerful yet silky finish.
- Structure: This vintage is noted for its powerful structure and refined tannins, which are well-integrated and add shape and grip to the wine. Finely beaded acidity keeps the wine fresh and allows all the flavors to hang wonderfully.
- Terroir: The distinctive soil of the “La Crau” vineyard—which is covered in large river stones called galets—is prominently expressed, lending the wine a unique stony minerality.
