Rooster Rojo Anejo Tequila

If you’re trying to track down that tequila with the rooster on the bottle, this is the one: Rooster Rojo — “Red Rooster” — with its proud crowing emblem that’s impossible to miss on the shelf. The Añejo is the brand’s most mature expression, a 100% blue Weber agave tequila aged for more than a year in oak and bottled at 40% ABV.

It’s double pot-distilled and then, in an unusual signature step, blended down with water filtered through Mexican silver before its long rest in oak barrels gives it that rich, mahogany colour. The result is a tequila built for slow sipping rather than shooting.

Expect aromas of oak, dark chocolate, coffee and a curl of tobacco, leading into a creamy palate of caramel, vanilla, roasted agave and cocoa, with waves of brown sugar arriving on a long, soft finish. Pour it neat or over a single large cube to let the oak and agave unfold, and pair it with a square of dark chocolate for a genuinely memorable nightcap.
