Product Description
Jolie-Laide’s ‘Glou d’Etat’ is exactly what its name promises — a playful nod to “glou-glou,” the French shorthand for a wine so juicy and easy you can’t stop pouring. Made by Sonoma’s cult-favorite husband-and-wife team Scott and Jenny Schultz, it’s a fruit-forward California red built for pleasure rather than ponder, and it’s become a go-to for natural-wine fans.
The magic is in the method: whole clusters are fermented using carbonic maceration, which coaxes out vivid aromatics and pure fruit while keeping tannins soft and low. Expect popping aromas of raspberry, rose petal and violet, then a bright, gushing palate of ripe cherry, plum and cranberry with fresh, lifted acidity. It’s a rotating blend of California varieties — recent vintages have leaned on grapes like Valdiguie, Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvedre — so the exact mix shifts year to year while the joyful, gluggable spirit stays the same.
Serve it lightly chilled to show off all that energy. It’s a brilliant warm-weather red and an easy match for charcuterie, pizza, roast vegetables or just good company. Drink it young, drink it cold, and don’t expect the bottle to last long.
