George Dickel 17 Year Old Reserve Cask Strength Tennessee Whisky

George Dickel 17 Year Old Reserve is about as old as Tennessee whisky gets. Seventeen years is an extraordinary age for spirit maturing in the South’s hot, swinging climate, where summers drive whisky deep into the wood and evaporation claims a heavy share of every barrel — so what survives to be bottled is rare, concentrated, and richly oaked.

It’s made at Cascade Hollow in Tullahoma from Dickel’s classic mash of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley, then put through the house signature: “chill charcoal mellowing,” where the young spirit is chilled before being filtered through sugar-maple charcoal — the step that gives Dickel its famously clean, soft character. For this release, GM and distiller Nicole Austin hand-selected the barrels that best captured that house style at full maturity.

The result is layered and indulgent: crème brûlée and baked apricot on the nose, then honey, caramel, and vanilla up front, a touch of tropical fruit and warm baking spice through the middle, and a long finish of cedar, toffee, gentle pepper, and black-tea tannin. Pour it neat, or add a few drops of water and give it time to open. A genuine collector’s bottle.
