400 Conejos Añejo is a beautiful way into aged mezcal. Made in Tlacolula in the heart of Oaxaca from 100% Espadín agave — the classic maguey of artisanal mezcal — it’s roasted, fermented and distilled in the traditional way, then rested in American oak to earn its añejo designation, picking up a warm amber hue and an extra layer of polish along the way.
That time in barrel tames the smoke without erasing it. Expect aromas of soft wood smoke and cooked agave with a fruity edge, leading into a medium-bodied palate of caramelised sweetness, oak spice, dried fruit and a whisper of cocoa. The finish is long and warming, with gentle smoke, citrus zest and lingering oak. Smooth and approachable, it’s a great bottle for anyone curious about mezcal beyond the campfire-smoke cliché.
