Under the hood is WhistlePig’s 100% rye PiggyBack mash bill, tuned for power and spice, then bottled at 96.77 proof, a precise nod to Valtteri Bottas’s racing number 77. The barrels weren’t just left to sit in a quiet warehouse. Trial casks were first evaluated in Alfa Romeo’s wind tunnel in Switzerland, mirroring the aerodynamic testing of the team’s F1 cars. Select barrels then went back to Vermont, where they were subjected to varying G-forces to accelerate the interaction between whiskey and wood, pushing maturation into new territory. 

For the finish, WhistlePig layers in an unexpected twist: lychee and oolong tea, inspired by Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver. The oolong brings lifted herbal and floral tones that play against the naturally grassy, peppery character of the rye. Lychee adds a juicy, tropical edge, rounding the palate with soft sweetness rather than heavy sugar. The result is a rye that opens with bright aromatics, shifts into concentrated rye spice and tea-like depth at mid-palate, and closes with a long finish of tropical fruit, gentle tannin, and a final snap of spice.
