Product Description
The Muff Liquor Company Irish Whiskey is a modern blended Irish whiskey built on old-school craftsmanship. Produced in the coastal village of Muff in County Donegal, this expression starts with five distinct Irish malt and grain whiskeys, each matured in a different style of cask. Together they create a bottle that feels carefully engineered rather than generic: grain whiskey from heavily charred virgin oak adds color and vanilla sweetness, ex-bourbon grain brings light honeyed notes, sherry-cask malt gives body, unpeated double-distilled malt adds fruit, and a peated triple-distilled malt introduces a gentle, lingering smoke.
On the nose, the whiskey opens with vibrant citrus and orchard fruit, backed by banana chips, cinder toffee, and ripe stone fruit, all wrapped in a soft halo of peat smoke. It’s inviting rather than aggressive, signaling a dram that’s flavorful but very approachable. The palate follows through with warming baking spice and toasted oak, supported by caramelized nuts and crisp green apple. The smoke stays in the background, adding structure and a savory edge instead of dominating the glass. The finish is long and smooth, with notes of vanilla bean and a creamy coconut sweetness that slowly taper off.
Bottled at 43% ABV, this whiskey has enough weight to stand up in cocktails but remains silky and easy to sip, which is exactly what you want from a versatile house Irish. The distillery itself is relatively young, founded in 2017 and inspired by the founder’s grandfather, a local potato farmer and poitín maker, a reminder that this is a contemporary brand with deep roots in Ireland’s rural distilling traditions.
Recognition has followed quickly. Muff Irish Whiskey has already earned a Double Gold medal from The Fifty Best Awards, confirming that the combination of careful blending, quality cask selection, and restrained peat is resonating with judges as well as drinkers.
Serve it neat to explore the layers of fruit, spice, and smoke; over a large cube for a slower, sweeter sip; or build a rich, smoky Old Fashioned that needs nothing more than orange bitters and a twist of peel.
