Product Description
Tequila Ocho Añejo Aged in Old Fitzgerald Barrels is where agave craftsmanship meets Kentucky bourbon heritage. This limited barrel-select release begins with Ocho’s hallmark: fully ripe, single-estate Blue Weber agave from the red-soil highlands of Jalisco. For this edition, the agave comes from two distinct fields—Rancho Corralillos and Rancho Potrero Grande—each contributing its own expression of sweetness, minerality, and spice.
After slow cooking, traditional milling, and careful distillation, the tequila is rested for twelve months in recently emptied Old Fitzgerald 10-Year Spring 2023 Decanter Series barrels. These casks once held a renowned wheated bourbon, and their influence is deliberate rather than overpowering. The result is an añejo that remains firmly agave-driven, but carries a rounded bourbon accent: softer grain notes, deeper caramel sweetness, and a polished oak structure.
On the nose, expect an inviting mix of cooked agave and dessert-like richness. Coconut and roasted pineapple sit alongside dark chocolate, cherry, and a drizzle of maple, with a faint cereal note hinting at the wheated bourbon roots. The palate follows with layered complexity: coffee and toffee up front, then toasted oak, citrus peel, and cacao, all wrapped in a long finish that gradually shifts from baking spice and cocoa to gentle maple and warm wood.
Bottled at 48% ABV (96 proof), this is a tequila built for serious sipping. The higher proof preserves texture and flavor definition, allowing a few drops of water or slow aeration in the glass to reveal new nuances over time.
Tequila Ocho Añejo Aged in Old Fitzgerald Barrels is ideal for tequila enthusiasts who appreciate terroir, bourbon lovers curious about agave, and collectors looking for a genuine crossover bottle. Enjoy it neat in a proper tasting glass, perhaps alongside dark chocolate or roasted nuts, and you’ll experience a spirit that respects tradition while confidently exploring new ground.
