Product Description
Piattelli Reserve Malbec + Tannat is a serious high-altitude red blend for drinkers who like depth, power, and precision in the same glass. Crafted in the Cafayate Valley in Salta, northern Argentina, this wine brings together two deeply expressive varieties, Malbec and Tannat, in an even 50/50 split. The vineyards sit at roughly 5,900 feet above sea level in the Andes, where intense sunlight, cool nights, and arid conditions naturally concentrate flavor and keep the wine refreshing.
In the glass, the wine shows a dense, inky ruby color with violet highlights. On the nose, you’ll find ripe black fruits, blackberry, black plum, and dark cherry, layered with notes of cocoa, baking spice, and hints of bay leaf, eucalyptus, and dried fig. The palate is full-bodied and dry, with generous dark fruit at the core and a clear streak of dark chocolate and subtle toast from oak aging. Firm, ripe tannins give the wine real structure without feeling harsh, while the naturally high acidity from the altitude keeps everything lifted rather than heavy. Expect a persistent, fruit-driven finish that lingers with spice and a touch of savory earth.
With an alcohol level around 14.5% depending on vintage, Piattelli Reserve Malbec + Tannat is powerful but well balanced, making it an excellent wine for richer dishes. Recent vintages have earned 90+ point scores from respected critics such as James Suckling and Vinous, underlining the quality and consistency of the blend.
This bottle really comes into its own at the table. It’s a natural match for grilled steaks, short ribs, lamb chops, churrasco, burgers loaded with cheese, or slow-cooked beef and lamb stews. It also works beautifully with roasted mushrooms, smoky barbecue sauces, and strong, salty cheeses like blue or aged cheddar.
Behind the wine is Piattelli’s commitment to sustainability: the Cafayate winery is gravity-fed, the vineyards are farmed with an emphasis on environmental responsibility, and the estate holds Bodegas de Argentina Certified Sustainable status.
Enjoy this now for its vibrant fruit and polished structure, or cellar for around 3–5 years to let the tannins soften further and the secondary flavors deepen.
