Product Description
Octagono Naranja is a boundary-pushing orange wine from Vergel de la Sierra in Guanajuato, Mexico, made at high altitude in vineyards planted on clay- and silt-rich soils. The blend centers on Moscatel/Moscato Bianco with Semillón, combining the floral, tropical character of Muscat with the structure and depth of Semillon.
Grapes are grown organically with a focus on biodynamic, sustainable farming. In the cellar, Octagono takes a zero-intervention approach: grapes are destemmed, foot-crushed, and left to ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. The must macerates with the skins for around 7–9 months in buried clay amphoras made by local artisans, a method that connects the wine directly to its place through both soil and vessel. No fining, no filtration, and no added sulfites are used, resulting in a cloudy, “alive” wine where each bottle can show subtle variation and evolution in the glass.
In the glass, Octagono Naranja pours a hazy golden-orange. Aromatically, it leads with bright citrus and stone fruit layered over tropical notes of guava and pineapple, joined by hints of bruised apple, dried herbs, and a whisper of cooked agave. On the palate, you get moderate, refreshing acidity wrapped in a surprisingly velvety, structured texture. There’s a gentle, kombucha-like ferment note on the finish that underscores the wine’s natural character without overwhelming the fruit.
At around 11% ABV, this is a highly drinkable orange wine that still carries plenty of depth. It’s excellent on its own as an aperitif, but really shines at the table: pair it with grilled shrimp, octopus, ceviche, miso-roasted vegetables, or a classic Caesar salad. Its combination of citrus, savory herbal tones, and texture also makes it a smart match for heartier, umami-rich dishes.
For drinkers exploring natural wine, Octagono Naranja offers a clear expression of what low-intervention, amphora-aged orange wine can be: expressive, textural, and uncompromisingly tied to its origins in the mountains of central Mexico.
