Product Description
Juan Gil Red Blend showcases how serious Spanish red wine can be without becoming overly formal or fussy. Sourced from old, low-yielding estate vineyards in Jumilla, in Spain’s southeastern Murcia region, this wine starts with fruit that is naturally intense and concentrated. Monastrell (also known as Mourvèdre) is the backbone of the blend, bringing dark fruit and a distinctly Mediterranean character. Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and classic cassis notes, while Syrah contributes plush texture and spicy depth.
The vineyards sit at elevation in a hot, arid climate, and the vines are dry-farmed and hand-harvested. This combination of tough growing conditions and careful farming produces small berries packed with flavor rather than water. Many parcels are around 50 years old, further concentrating the fruit and contributing to the wine’s intensity and complexity.
In the cellar, each grape variety is vinified separately in stainless steel to preserve freshness, then aged for about 12 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels before blending. This approach allows the winemaking team to tailor the final cuvée for balance, integrating oak influence, vanilla, toast, cocoa, and sweet spice, without overwhelming the fruit.
In the glass, Juan Gil Red Blend is deep ruby to purple. The nose opens with ripe blackberries, black cherry, and red plum layered with hints of vanilla, cocoa, dried herbs, and warm baking spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with concentrated dark fruit, a touch of chocolate, and subtle smoked and savory notes. The tannins are firm but polished, the acidity is surprisingly fresh for such a robust wine, and the finish is long and satisfying.
At around 15% ABV, this is undeniably a bold red, yet its balance makes it versatile at the table. Serve it with grilled steaks, braised short ribs, burgers, lamb, or rich tomato-based pasta dishes; it also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses. For customers who enjoy premium California blends but want to explore Spain, Juan Gil Red Blend offers similar richness and impact with distinctive Spanish character and outstanding value.
