Product Description
Cordero Mario Bèch Langhe Nebbiolo is a focused, terroir-driven expression of Nebbiolo from the rolling hills of the Langhe in Piedmont, Italy. Sourced from carefully selected vineyards around Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba, it is designed to capture the grape’s hallmark perfume and structure in a style that’s ready to enjoy on the dinner table today, not just after long cellaring.
The wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grown on a mix of sandstone, sand, and calcareous marl, classic Langhe soils that naturally limit yields and emphasize aroma and finesse over sheer power. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed but not crushed, preserving whole berries and a small percentage of whole bunches to add complexity. A brief cold maceration precedes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, allowing gentle extraction of color and flavor while keeping the fruit profile bright and precise.
Once primary fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is then aged for roughly 12 months in French oak tonneaux. This larger-format oak adds subtle texture and a whisper of spice without overwhelming the fruit. The result is a vivid ruby-red Nebbiolo with aromas of fresh red cherry and small red berries, layered with rose petals, violet, and a delicate, savory spice note. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and linear, with lively acidity and fine, soft tannins that frame the fruit rather than dominate it.
In the glass, Bèch is all about balance. It offers enough grip and structure to satisfy Nebbiolo enthusiasts, but the tannins are polished enough that it does not require extended aging to be enjoyable. Expect an alcohol level around 13% depending on the vintage, which keeps the wine energetic and food-friendly.
At the table, this Langhe Nebbiolo is incredibly versatile. It pairs naturally with classic Piedmontese dishes, tajarin with meat ragù, braised beef, and mushroom-based plates, but it’s equally comfortable alongside roast chicken, pork loin, charcuterie boards, and firm, aged cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature and it will show both its vibrant fruit and its savory depth. With critical recognition (including a 90-point rating from Vinous for the 2022 vintage) and a thoughtful, quality-focused production approach, Cordero Mario Bèch Langhe Nebbiolo offers a compelling introduction to Piedmont’s flagship grape at a very approachable level.
