Product Description
Château de la Chaize 2019 Brouilly brings together serious Beaujolais terroir and modern precision in a wine that is both easy to enjoy and quietly complex. Sourced from estate vineyards in Brouilly, one of the ten crus of Beaujolais, this bottling leans into what Gamay does best: vivid fruit, supple texture and refreshing energy, backed here by the pedigree of a historic château with extensive hillside holdings.
The estate vinifies each parcel separately, using a mix of whole clusters and destemmed fruit. Maceration runs roughly ten days with regular pump-overs and rack-and-return, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. This semi-carbonic approach keeps the focus on purity of fruit and silky tannin while avoiding heavy oak or extraction, so the finished wine tastes clean, bright and transparent to place.
In the glass, the 2019 shows a limpid ruby color with purple edges. The nose is immediately expressive: juicy cherry and wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, and a floral lift reminiscent of peony, layered with notes of orange peel and gentle baking spice. Critics highlight the wine’s medium to full body, ample but not heavy mid-palate, and a line of acidity that keeps everything taut and mouthwatering. Fine, powdery tannins frame the fruit and carry through to a precise, savory-tinged finish.
Stylistically, this sits between juicy, bistro-style Beaujolais and more serious Burgundy reds. It’s approachable right now without needing a long decant, yet the balance of fruit, acid and structure suggests it will develop additional complexity over the next 3–5 years in bottle. That makes it an excellent choice both for immediate drinking and for customers who like to tuck away a few bottles.
On the table, Château de la Chaize 2019 Brouilly is a true all-rounder. Pour it slightly chilled with roast chicken, grilled pork, herb-rubbed salmon, charcuterie boards or mushroom-based dishes, and it will cut through richness while echoing savory flavors. It’s equally at home as a weeknight “house red” or as a conversation-starting cru Beaujolais for guests who appreciate classic French wine with character and charm.
